So what has been popular lately? Kolaveri Nationally… and Pinky Moge Wali in Punjab. You combine them both and you have a recipe for another sure hit wonder. And so did Channi Singh and DesiRoutz, as they came out with Punjabi Kolaveri. But thats not how it all began in the first place. Dhanush’s YouTube hit got the country hooked onto Tamil, but lately many versions of Kolaveri started coming out in multi-lingual renditions.

And now, a group of Chandigarh lads have come out with the innovative Punjabi version of Kolaveri Di based on Pinky Moge Wali – a fictional character from the acclaimed Punjabi film Jehne Mera Dil Luteya.

The song went viral overnight on YouTube generating more than 1, 00, 000 hits in just one day, and why not when the first and foremost appreciation came from none other than Mr. Amitabh Bachchan !! On Saturday, Big B tweeted

“Just heard the Punjabi version of Kolaveri di…pretty good! Innovative and fun.”

Not just Big B, the song was admired by VJ Nikhil Chinappa as well, as he tweeted

“Ahahaaaaaaaa!!!!!it was only a matter a time before *this* happened. From Chennai – Chandigarh. Kolaveri WOKAY!!…”

With more than 1Lakh hits in a day, the video has also been certified as the most Trending/Shared Video in India over last few hours by Trendsmap.com. What else !! The song had also featured on India TV News channel. However, its like a dream come true for this group of musicians from Chandigarh as they never believed that the song would become such a rage in the country. They sang it purely out of fun. According to Channi Singh who sang this song, they came out with the Punjabi version of the song as the Punjabis couldn’t understand the original Tamil version of Kolaveri Di. Shot at Mukti Studio, the video features Channi Singh, Raj Buttar, Hardeep Singh, Angrej Singh, and Mohan Singh. The lyrics of Punjabi Kolaveri have been wirtten by Hardeep Singh (owner of DesiRoutz), Raj Buttar – an aspiring singer from Ludhiana, ad Channi Singh himself. Kamaldeep Kaur Khangura who is the Video Director of the song as well owes the concept and post production of Punjabi Kolaveri, is a model by profession and has numerous Punjabi video to her credit. These days she is venturing into video direction.

At the grand finale of Star Ya Rockstar, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Kapil Sharma and Manasi Parekh attempted to come out with their own versions of the song. Three of them are competing for the winning title. In the show, Dhanush-Anirudh’s Kolavari collaboration started the trend. Manasi followed up with a Gujarati version, and Kapil came up with a Punjabi Kolaveri Di. Sumeet Raghavan performed his own version making fun of Mona Singh with lyrics like ‘Why does Mona wear only Saree ?"
